Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Wet Fire Sprinkler Designer
to join a growing fire protection design team supporting commercial, industrial, and multi-residential projects.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end technical design of water-based fire sprinkler systems, ensuring all designs are compliant with Australian standards, regulatory requirements, and project specifications. This role requires strong technical capability in sprinkler system design, hydraulic calculations, and CAD/BIM coordination.
This is a fully remote opportunity for a highly detail-oriented professional who can work independently while collaborating with project stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
System Design
- Design wet pipe, dry pipe, deluge, and pre-action sprinkler systems
in accordance with Australian Standards, including the
AS 2118 series
.
- Review architectural and engineering documentation to classify building occupancy and determine hazard categories.
- Perform
hydraulic calculations
using tools such as
HydraCalc, Elite Fire, SprinkCAD
, or equivalent software.
- Produce fully coordinated
CAD/Revit drawings
, including:
- sprinkler head layout plans
- pipe sizing schedules
- riser diagrams
- Zone Control Valve Assembly (ZCVA) details
- hydraulic design area notation
- Select and specify sprinkler heads, piping materials, supports, and related components according to standards and project requirements.
- Prepare hydraulic design reports and supporting technical documentation.
Coordination & Documentation
- Coordinate sprinkler designs with architectural, structural, mechanical, and HVAC disciplines
to avoid service clashes.
- Prepare design documentation for stakeholder review and approval.
- Manage design revisions, drawing updates, and document control.
- Communicate with project managers, engineers, and site teams regarding design scope, technical clarifications, and project changes.
- Provide design support during construction and commissioning phases.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering
, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical industry experience.
- 4–6 years minimum
experience in sprinkler system design.
- Strong knowledge of
Australian sprinkler design standards
, particularly
AS 2118
.
- Proficiency in
hydraulic calculation software
such as HydraCalc, Elite Fire, SprinkCAD, or equivalent.
- Advanced
AutoCAD
skills.
- Ability to produce
construction-ready design documentation
independently.
- Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience working in remote or cross-functional project teams.
Highly Desirable
- Experience working on Australian or New Zealand fire protection projects
- FPAS accreditation
(or equivalent fire systems design certification)
- Experience using
Revit / BIM
- Knowledge of authority approval and compliance submission processes
- Clash detection and multidisciplinary coordination experience
