Role Overview

We’re seeking a volunteer Web Designer to strengthen Nucleate’s digital presence and ensure our programs, events, and alumni network are accessible worldwide. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the online face of one of the largest global nonprofit networks in biotech, with 40+ chapters, 800+ volunteer leaders, and a growing global audience of 10,000+ innovators, founders, and industry leaders.

You’ll collaborate with our Operations, Marketing, and Design teams to build and optimize web experiences that highlight Nucleate’s mission, showcase our alumni companies, and enhance access to resources across the ecosystem. This is an ideal role for someone eager to apply their creative and technical skills to real-world projects with visible impact — and build a portfolio that stands out in the life sciences or nonprofit sectors.

Please note: This is an unpaid volunteer position with a global nonprofit organization. While the role offers valuable non-financial benefits (such as professional experience, networking opportunities, and impact-driven work) it does not include monetary compensation. If you are specifically seeking a paid position, we kindly ask that you do not apply.

  • Excited by the intersection of science, design, and impact-driven storytelling
  • A proactive collaborator who enjoys turning complex ideas into intuitive, engaging digital experiences
  • Looking for a resume-building opportunity that offers ownership, visibility, and professional growth within an innovative global nonprofit

Responsibilities

  • Update and maintain the Nucleate website
  • Design user-friendly pages for programs, events, and resources
  • Ensure mobile responsiveness and accessibility across platforms
  • Collaborate with the Marketing/Operations team on new features

  • Strong design skills, with attention to usability and accessibility
  • Familiarity with basic web standards (HTML/CSS helpful, not required)
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

What You’ll Gain

  • Portfolio-worthy experience designing for a global nonprofit
  • Collaboration with biotech leaders, sponsors, and innovators
  • The opportunity to shape how thousands of people engage with Nucleate online
