Role Overview
Are you a detail-obsessed designer who cares as much about how a site performs as how it looks? Signal Studio is hiring a remote Intermediate Web Designer to help us design high-converting Webflow websites for B2B SaaS clients in NZ, Australia, and globally.
You'll work side-by-side with our Webflow developers (and Claude Code) to ship websites that don't just look sharp - they move metrics. We expect you to bring strong creative direction, opinions on UX, and a working understanding of how your designs get built.
We build primarily on Webflow, with the occasional custom Astro landing pages and React web applications. Webflow design experience is a strong advantage. A real grasp of how modern web is built is the minimum bar.
About Signal Studio
Signal Studio is a small, AI-native B2B web design agency headquartered in Auckland, New Zealand, working with growth-stage SaaS clients across NZ, Australia, the US, and the UK. We design and build conversion-focused websites that move client growth metrics. We're a tight team that uses AI tools (Claude Code, Figma AI, image generation) as part of daily workflow - not as a gimmick, but as leverage.
What this means for you:
-
Fully remote. Work from anywhere. We have team members in multiple time zones already.
-
Real creative ownership - you'll set the visual bar for new client work
-
Close collaboration with the founder and the Webflow build team
-
Real influence over how our design system and client process evolves as we scale
-
Genuine path to a Senior Designer role as you prove out the work and the agency grows
Working Arrangement
-
Remote, full-time contractor (40 hours/week)
-
NZD compensation, paid monthly via Wise or equivalent
-
Time zone overlap: at least 4 hours of overlap with NZ business hours (NZST is UTC+12) - works naturally for South / Southeast Asia (Philippines, Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka) and similar
-
Tools provided: Figma seat, Webflow workspace access, AI tooling (Claude, Midjourney, Flux, etc.)
Who You Are
-
2+ years of web design experience, ideally in an agency or studio environment
-
Strong portfolio showing modern web design and brand work for real clients - bonus points for SaaS and B2B
-
Proficient in Figma. Comfortable in Adobe Creative Suite for supporting work
-
You can clearly explain a design decision - to a teammate, a client, or in writing
-
You ship. You can juggle 2-3 active projects without dropping detail
-
You have an opinion on responsive design, UI/UX, and accessibility - and you can defend it
-
Strong sense of how design decisions affect usability, conversion, and load performance
-
Self-starter. You can take a brief, fill in the gaps, and come back with a strong first draft without needing hand-holding
-
Comfortable being part of a small, AI-augmented team where the bar is high and the tempo is fast
-
Excellent written English (we run async-first, so writing matters more than speaking)
What You'll Be Doing
-
Design high-performing websites that fit the client's brand and move their growth metrics
-
Produce wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes in Figma
-
Work directly with Webflow developers to make sure what gets built matches what was designed
-
Present concepts to clients (mostly async via Loom; occasional live calls), talk through your rationale, and iterate confidently on feedback
-
Apply UI/UX and accessibility best practices to every project, not just the showpiece ones
-
Stay on top of where web design is heading - motion, 3D, interaction patterns, AI-generated visuals
-
Help define and maintain Signal Studio's design quality bar across every project that ships
Bonus Points
-
Working knowledge of HTML and CSS - enough to know what's easy and what's a pain to build
-
Motion design experience (After Effects, Rive, Lottie, GSAP-aware design)
-
Hands-on with AI image generation tools (Midjourney, Flux, Nano Banana, Sora, Runway) for moodboards, concept work, hero imagery, and brand-aligned generative assets
-
Experience designing for B2B SaaS or eCommerce
-
Background in brand identity work alongside web
Application Requirements
Send us a portfolio. Live website links beat PDFs. We want to see process and final output - sketches, design systems, and explanations of why you made the choices you made. If you've used AI as part of your design workflow, show us how.
