Volunteer UX Designer Intern

Organization Description

Atria is creating a community organizing platform for coalitions, alliances, and networks to collaborate effectively. The focus is on achieving collective goals efficiently by leveraging technology and connectivity. We are a civic organization ran and led by our wonderful volunteers.

Core Responsibilities

  • Ensure that established design standards are consistently and appropriately applied within design work
  • Develop and present documentation, user flows, annotated wireframes, and interactive prototypes with tools like Figma
  • Communicate and coordinate with frontend volunteer engineers to ensure the Figma generated guides the engineers adequately to the expected delivery and result of a new feature

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working towards/recently graduated from Bachelor's degree or certificate in Human Computer Interaction (HCI), UX Design, or a related field of study
  • Have experience or eager to learn a wireframing/interface design tool such as Figma, high and low fidelity designs

The ideal volunteer for this role is one that is either
still in school for a UX Design/HCI program (2nd or more years in a Canadian university or college
such as but not limited to UBC, SFU, BCIT, Langara, Douglas, Emily Carr) or have
recently graduated from a UX Design bootcamp (i.e. Lighthouse Labs, Brainstation, etc)
and looking to gain some relevant experience. There is
no previous work experience necessary for this role
, in fact, this role aims to help out current designer students and recent graduates faced with a tough tech job market gain some relevant experience.

To be extremely clear, this is a
volunteer
role and everyone in the organization including the engineering team lead and the founder are volunteering to be a part of this cause. There is
no monetary compensation in this volunteer role
.

At this point we will only consider candidates living in Canada (west coast to the east coast is OK!), we are not accepting volunteers from other countries thanks for understanding. We are looking for 1 volunteer UX Designer to join us at this time. There is an interview process (not technical in nature) to ensure we get volunteers with the right fit and expectations of this role.
