About The Role
We are seeking a talented UX/UI Designer for a temporary six-month engagement to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate is someone who excels at simplifying complex designs, bringing clarity, consistency, and scalability to fast-paced projects. You will collaborate closely with our existing UX Designer to enhance user experiences supporting Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) platforms and digital government services. Your role will focus on creating intuitive, accessible interfaces that meet modern standards, leveraging AI tools to accelerate workflows, and ensuring seamless design-to-development handoffs. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to government modernization efforts, working on impactful projects that serve the public and advance civic technology initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in UX, Visual Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of product-focused UX/UI design experience
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating original thinking, human-centered design, and systems-level approach
  • Proficiency in Figma, Sketch, or other modern design tools
  • Experience working alongside developers and understanding technical decision-making
  • Interest in AI, machine learning, and integrating AI tools into design workflows
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams
  • Proactive mindset with a bias toward action and continuous improvement
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance

Responsibilities

  • Design intuitive, accessible user experiences supporting FOIA platforms and digital services for federal clients
  • Partner with the existing UX Designer to bring structure, consistency, and refinement to fast-moving projects
  • Document design decisions, workflows, and user journeys clearly for development teams
  • Create and maintain design systems aligned with frontend frameworks like SvelteKit and React
  • Develop wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs translating complex workflows into user-friendly interfaces
  • Leverage AI tools to accelerate prototyping, research, and usability insights
  • Enhance design-to-development handoffs to reduce bottlenecks and improve delivery speed
  • Iterate designs based on stakeholder feedback, balancing speed with thoughtful scalability
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility standards such as Section 508 and WCAG
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to maintain project momentum and clarity
