About The Role
The Walt Disney Company is seeking a talented Lead UI/UX Designer to join its dynamic digital entertainment division. This role is pivotal in shaping the interactive experiences that bring Disney’s beloved characters and worlds to life across various digital platforms. As a Lead UI/UX Designer, you will be responsible for designing engaging user interfaces and game experiences that captivate audiences and enhance gameplay. You will lead a team of UI designers, collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, and work hands-on with cutting-edge tools such as Unreal Engine, UEFN, and Verse scripting to develop innovative content. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in game development, a passion for Disney’s IP, and a creative mindset geared towards building immersive and user-friendly digital experiences. This is a remote position with potential minimal travel, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to Disney’s digital frontier and influence the next generation of interactive entertainment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Game Design, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of game development experience, including at least one shipped game in a Lead or Managerial role.
  • Proficiency in Unreal Engine and/or UEFN, with experience in UMG (Unreal Motion Graphics), Blueprints, and Verse scripting language.
  • Experience working on multiple shipped products across various platforms such as Console, PC, and Mobile.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing and mentoring UI/UX teams.
  • Excellent collaboration skills with stakeholders, developers, and artists to deliver cohesive design solutions.
  • Proficiency in creating UI mockups and wireframes using tools like Figma or similar programs.
  • Deep understanding of user interface design principles, best practices for engaging user experiences, and platform-specific constraints.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and translate creative concepts into functional UI elements.
  • A passion for Disney’s IP, characters, lore, and aesthetic principles, with an appreciation for linear media, movies, and theme park design.
  • Creative problem-solving skills with an innovative approach to building new digital experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project leads and developers to design and implement UI elements and game experiences that are engaging and user-friendly.
  • Lead the UI development process, managing the work of the UI team within a cross-disciplinary pod structure.
  • Contribute hands-on to the creation of content for interactive games and experiences based on Disney’s extensive character and world portfolio.
  • Create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to visualize user interfaces and gameplay systems.
  • Develop UI content using Unreal Engine, UEFN, and scripting in Verse, ensuring integration within development and live-service environments.
  • Work closely with art teams to develop and maintain consistent UI style guidelines aligned with Disney’s brand aesthetic.
  • Design, test, and iterate on UI and UX systems to optimize user engagement and gameplay flow.
  • Write detailed design documentation to communicate concepts and ensure alignment across teams.
  • Mentor and guide junior UI designers, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in UI/UX design for gaming and interactive media.
