Senior Web Designer

About Theoria Creative

Theoria Creative is a science marketing and design firm that helps growing biotech companies communicate with investors through clear, engaging, and visually compelling storytelling. For 16 years, we have partnered with early-stage and emerging biotechs to translate complex science into investor-ready narratives supported by conceptual graphics and clean technical visuals.

We are a fully remote team and have built a stable, long-term business serving the biotech industry. We pride ourselves on a collaborative culture, steady work, and long-term job security for the right people.

Role overview

We are looking for a Senior Web Designer who combines strong conceptual thinking with hands-on web development execution. This is a specialized web design role - candidates with a primary focus in general design or motion graphics are not the right fit.

You will develop ideas, create visual directions, and execute high-quality designs across web, digital, and light print formats, working primarily in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite. You will work as a part of the creative team on ideas, develop designs on your own, and collaborate with other designers to finalize the project.

This is a 15–20 hours per week, permanent, remote contract role with the potential to grow over time.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead creative concepting and visual direction for web pages and campaign assets for biotech clients
  • Design web and UI layouts in Figma with a strong understanding of web components, design systems, and responsive design
  • Build and update pages in WordPress independently
  • Translate complex scientific or technical content into clear, visually compelling web design and layouts
  • Create and evolve brand identity systems, including logos, icon sets, typography, color palettes, and guidelines
  • Design supporting marketing and editorial materials in InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop (for example, banners, posters, one-pagers, infographics)
  • Maintain clean, organized Figma and Adobe files with clear naming, components, and structure
  • Collaborate with the team to brainstorm ideas, create designs, and iterate quickly based on feedback

Qualifications and skills

  • 5–8+ years of professional experience in web design
  • Significant time in an agency handling multiple clients simultaneously, tight deadlines, and high-volume creative output - candidates from long-term in-house-only backgrounds are unlikely to fit the pace
  • Strong preference for agency experience supporting biotech, pharmaceutical, or similar life sciences clients
  • Strong Figma portfolio showcasing concept-driven work across web pages and UI layouts, icon sets and visual systems, branding, and marketing collateral - work must demonstrate both UX thinking and strong visual design execution (not wireframing only)
  • Experience working with B2B clients, preferably in scientific, biotech, pharmaceutical, or technical industries
  • Expert command of Figma, including components, Auto Layout, and developer-ready files - Figma is the primary tool for this role and must be prominently featured in your portfolio
  • WordPress proficiency required; must be able to build and update pages independently
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) for supporting brand and marketing materials
  • Experience building or extending brand systems and design libraries across multiple touchpoints
  • High ownership, strong communication, and comfort working remotely with a distributed team
  • Able to balance multiple client projects while maintaining quality and hitting deadlines

Nice to have

  • Experience in science, biotech, or other technical B2B contexts
  • Light motion or interaction design experience

How to apply

Please include a Figma portfolio link or links with your application. We strongly prefer to see Figma files in addition to a traditional portfolio. Applications without a Figma portfolio will not be reviewed.

Work arrangement

  • US-based firm with team members in Europe and US
  • Part-time: 15–20 hours per week to start, with potential to expand
  • Long-term contract role
  • Fully remote and flexible schedule, but must reliably collaborate during overlapping hours with Europe and US and respond during the work week
