You'll establish design excellence, create the standards, and construct the capability. Your domain includes our learning platform and its companion learning applications, and how they address varied audiences both within and beyond Alpha.

A five-year-old still learning letters and counting needs a system where novelty feels like discovery. A teenager working two grade levels below standard is reconstructing confidence after prolonged struggle, and a single unclear interaction could reverse their progress. A parent finally grasps how their child truly learns. That transparency reduces worry and turns them into capable advocates. An academic coach overseeing a multi-age classroom must track advancement without information overload. Your task is understanding each deeply enough to make authentically distinct design decisions for every group.

Your responsibility is the experience architecture: investigate each audience with genuine rigor, translate your findings into design principles engineers can implement immediately, and deliver code-ready outputs that function today, not presentations awaiting approval. You collaborate with product owners accountable for results and engineers deploying working software. You challenge proposals that compromise user experience. You control the complete process.

You'll employ AI as your productivity multiplier to accelerate iteration and expand coverage, though your discernment, not automated output, determines what launches. Primary emphasis is our education platform, with intermittent work in additional areas.

What You Will Be Doing

• Investigate users spanning fundamentally different audiences and develop design principles reflecting that understanding
• Construct and sustain design systems within each product's native UI framework, enabling engineering velocity and ensuring design accumulates rather than scatters
• Develop functional prototypes allowing product owners to validate choices in days rather than weeks
• Review existing products through the user lens: where does experience fail, what diminishes engagement, what changes would create impact
• Establish design culture: feedback mechanisms, trade-off evaluation methods, non-negotiable standards
• Collaborate with product owners and engineers, challenge proposals that degrade user experience

What You Won’t Be Doing

• Determining product strategy; product owners control that, you ensure experience enables it
• Creating static mockups requiring code translation
• Concentrating on a single product; you work across the entire portfolio
• Executing predefined design briefs; you extract context from ambiguous inputs and begin designing with partial information
• Requesting approval; you possess authority to surface and resolve UX issues independently

Basic Requirements
Senior UI/UX Designer key responsibilities

• Minimum 5 years in product design or UX positions, with complete ownership spanning research through delivered experience
• Clear evidence of user empathy and research rigor across audiences distinct from yourself
• Established design expertise in interaction and visual design, with a portfolio demonstrating audience-tailored solutions rather than standard patterns, combined with confident design perspectives
• Documented AI-native approach: rapid iteration, evaluative judgment, and capacity to challenge initial AI output instead of defaulting to suggestions
• Capability to convert designs into code leveraging AI tools and current frameworks
• Prepared to establish a design function and culture from inception, not adopting existing structures

Working with us
This is a full-time (40 hours per week), long-term position. The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record. The compensation level for this role is $100 USD/hour, which equates to $200,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year. The payment period is weekly.
