About The Role
The Software Practice at Atlassian is undergoing a transformative phase driven by the advent of powerful AI capabilities. This role is pivotal in redefining how software development is approached in an AI-native world. As a Lead Designer, you will collaborate with design, product, and engineering leadership to envision and implement innovative ways AI can revolutionize the software development lifecycle (SDLC). Your expertise will help identify opportunities where AI can automate tedious tasks, enhance workflows, and deliver smarter developer tools. You will work closely with product managers and engineers to translate this vision into tangible solutions, creating intuitive interfaces and seamless experiences for developers. Your role will involve designing AI-powered features, prototyping solutions, and owning the entire design process from conception to delivery. Qualifications

• 8+ years of product design experience, with a focus on complex workflows, systems, or products
• Strong portfolio demonstrating design solutions for challenging problems and impactful outcomes
• Technical understanding of software development processes and developer workflows
• Experience designing AI-powered features or products is highly preferred
• Knowledge of developer tools, technical products, or similar complex domains
• Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating design decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Ability to thrive in evolving environments, adapt approaches, and iterate based on feedback
• Proficiency in design tools, front-end code, or AI-assisted development techniques
• Collaborative mindset with experience working closely with cross-functional teams including product managers and engineers

Responsibilities

• Design intuitive, efficient developer workflows that streamline the software development lifecycle
• Identify opportunities to incorporate AI into workflows, automating repetitive tasks and enhancing productivity
• Create prototypes and working concepts to effectively communicate design ideas and solutions
• Lead end-to-end design processes for complex developer tools and AI-enhanced features
• Collaborate with product teams to define problems, success metrics, and innovative solutions
• Work with engineering teams to understand technical constraints and ensure feasible, high-quality implementations
• Conduct research to understand developer pain points and incorporate their feedback into design iterations
• Balance technical feasibility, AI capabilities, and user needs to develop practical yet impactful solutions
• Simplify complex technical concepts into user-friendly interfaces that feel natural and intuitive
• Iterate designs based on usability testing, developer feedback, and usage analytics to optimize user experience
