About Velocity Sheet Metal
Velocity Sheet Metal is a commercial sheet metal fabrication company based in Selma, Texas. Beyond our core HVAC fabrication operations, we are active in the offroad motorsports space — including BITD desert racing — and are building out our in-house fabrication and design capabilities for competition vehicles. This is a niche role for someone who lives and breathes offroad builds.
Position Overview
We are looking for a part-time, remote Chassis and Wire Harness Designer with hands-on experience using Bend-Tech software. This role supports the design and documentation of offroad motorsports chassis structures and electrical wire harness layouts. You will work directly with our build team to produce accurate tube geometry models, joint designs, and harness routing plans that translate directly to real fabrication.
This is a flexible, part-time remote engagement suited for someone with deep motorsports fabrication knowledge who wants consistent project-based work with a serious team.
Key Responsibilities
Design and model offroad chassis structures using Bend-Tech Pro or Bend-Tech Dragon
Produce accurate tube bending reports, notch templates, and cut lists from chassis models
Design wire harness layouts including routing, connector selection, and circuit documentation
Collaborate with the fabrication team on build tolerances, mounting points, and structural requirements
Develop documentation packages for chassis and harness builds (drawings, BOMs, routing diagrams)
Iterate on designs based on real-world build feedback and field testing results
Support integration of chassis geometry with suspension, drivetrain, and safety cage components
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated proficiency with Bend-Tech software (Pro, Dragon, or equivalent) and/or other chassis-specific CAD/CAM tools such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, OnShape, or similar parametric modeling platforms
Hands-on experience designing chassis or roll cage structures for offroad or motorsports applications
Working knowledge of wire harness design principles — routing, shielding, connector types, circuit protection
Strong understanding of tube steel fabrication: bending, notching, welding prep, and joint geometry
Ability to produce fabrication-ready outputs: tube bending reports, notch templates, cut lists, and assembly drawings regardless of software used
Ability to work independently in a remote environment and communicate clearly with a build team
Passion for offroad motorsports — you understand what these vehicles go through
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with desert racing, rock crawling, or similar high-performance offroad disciplines
Background with Can-Am, UTV, or custom trophy truck/buggy chassis design
Familiarity with SxS or short-course race vehicle electrical systems
Proficiency in one or more CAD/CAM tools used in chassis design and fabrication — including but not limited to Fusion 360, SolidWorks, OnShape, or comparable parametric modeling software
BITD, SCORE, or sanctioned race series experience — competitor or crew
What We Offer
Flexible part-time, remote work arrangement
Competitive compensation based on experience and project scope
Work with a team that is serious about competition and quality builds
Potential for expanded scope and hours as programs grow
