This role is fully remote however there is a strong preference for candidates who are East Coast based.

As a Learning Designer, you will be working for
FIRST®
Robotics Learning Resources
and will play a pivotal role in helping student robotics teams succeed by
developing engaging, approachable, and high-quality learning content focused on SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD and SOLIDWORKS xDesign.
Your work will directly support sponsored
FIRST
Robotics Competition (FRC®) teams, teaching them how to collaborate, design, build, iterate, simulate, and test their robots using SOLIDWORKS tools. Drawing inspiration from the FRC community and the expectations of student teams and mentors, you will create content that is practical, accessible, and aligned with the competitive spirit of FRC. Deliverables may include how-to videos, step-by-step learning modules, and presentation materials for mentors to use in training their teams.
Responsibilities
- Develop FRC-specific learning content for student teams and mentors, including videos, tutorials, guides, and presentations.
- Translate complex CAD and design workflows into clear, accessible, and engaging resources tailored for high school students.
- Benchmark competitive offerings (e.g., competitor's FRC resources, FRCDesign.org) and deliver materials that meet or exceed those standards.
- Review current SOLIDWORKS eLearning modules and videos, evaluate them and adapt any that could be used for FRC-specific learning content for FRC teams and mentors.
- Provide practical, hands-on examples and robot-specific design workflows that help teams design, simulate, and test effectively.
- Create rough-and-ready learning materials for our instructional designers to turn into polished, production-ready eLearning and tutorials.
- Adapt content for multiple learning formats (e.g., self-paced learning, classroom-style presentations, mentor-led instruction).
- Ensure all content reflects FRC culture and team dynamics, making it approachable and motivating for students and mentors.
- Collaborate with the SOLIDWORKS EDU team to align learning resources with broader education and sponsorship strategies.
Required Skills & Experience
- Prior experience with FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), either as a mentor, coach, or student participant
- Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD or SOLIDWORKS xDesign preferred
- Demonstrated ability to create educational or training content (videos, tutorials, lesson plans, or similar)
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to tailor technical content for high school students and mentors
- Creativity and understanding of FRC team culture, with a focus on keeping learning engaging and competition-relevant
- Strong organizational skills and ability to deliver content on schedule
- Bonus: Background in engineering, robotics, CAD instruction, or STEM education
