This role provides a unique opportunity to support the modernization and design of electric distribution systems across a range of utility projects. The Distribution Designer will develop detailed design packages for both overhead and underground systems, ensuring compliance with utility standards and safety codes. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, utilize advanced design software, and occasionally perform field inspections to verify conditions and gather design inputs. The position requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and strong communication skills to liaise with clients, municipalities, and utility teams. Accountabilities
As a Distribution Designer, you will:
Develop electric distribution design packages (OH/UG) in accordance with utility standards and specificationsPerform pole loading calculations and structural analysis using PoleForemanProduce designs using Autodesk Utility Design (AUD) and ArcFM, incorporating GIS data and field notesNavigate INFOR EFD for work management, tracking, and documentationApply NESC, NEC, and utility-specific criteria for conductor selection, clearances, and construction unitsCreate material lists, construction notes, and supporting documentation for work order packagesReview and QA/QC design deliverables to ensure accuracy and constructabilityCoordinate with cross-functional teams, including operations, forestry, and constructionParticipate in occasional field investigations, ensuring safety compliance and proper use of PPECommunicate effectively with clients, municipalities, and stakeholders regarding design and project requirements
Requirements
Candidates should have:
3+ years of experience in electric distribution designProficiency with PoleForeman, AUD, ArcFM, and INFOR EFDStrong understanding of overhead and underground distribution design and construction practicesExperience with GIS-based design tools (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS) and utility work management systemsKnowledge of applicable codes (NESC, NEC) and utility-specific standardsAbility to work independently in a fast-paced remote environmentBachelor's degree in Engineering preferred (Design Engineer) or technical degree/certificate (Designer)Excellent attention to detail and effective problem-solving skillsStrong communication skills to interact professionally with team members and clients
