Vikta Energy is seeking an experienced Commercial Solar & Battery Systems Designer to support the design and development of commercial solar and battery energy storage projects.

This role focuses on translating customer energy goals into technically sound, buildable solar and energy storage systems that deliver measurable outcomes such as demand charge reduction, backup power resilience, and long-term energy cost savings.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience designing commercial solar PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS), understands California utility requirements and incentive programs, and is highly proficient with HelioScope and Energy Toolbase.

This position is remote, with Texas-based candidates preferred, though exceptional candidates in other locations will be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

Design commercial solar and battery energy storage systems including rooftop, carport, and ground-mounted arrays.

Projects typically range from mid-sized commercial installations to multi-megawatt solar and battery systems depending on customer needs and site constraints.

Develop system layouts and production modeling using HelioScope, including:

  • System layouts and stringing configurations
  • Shading analysis
  • Production forecasting

Use Energy Toolbase to analyze project economics including:

  • Utility rate structures
  • Demand charges and time-of-use rates
  • Incentives and savings projections
  • Customer return on investment

  • Equipment schedules

Review and support utility interconnection requirements, including metering configurations, available service capacity, and potential upgrade needs.

Prepare or support interconnection applications and technical documentation for utilities.

Ensure all designs comply with NEC requirements, local codes, and utility standards.

Serve as the technical bridge between sales, engineering, and project management, translating customer energy goals into systems that can be successfully installed and commissioned.

Generate accurate bill of materials (BOMs) and provide technical input for project proposals and budgeting.

  • Strong experience designing commercial solar projects (not residential)
  • Proficiency with HelioScope
  • Experience using Energy Toolbase for financial modeling and rate analysis
  • Strong understanding of NEC Articles 690 and 705
  • Experience creating technical drawings using AutoCAD or similar CAD software
  • Solid understanding of AC/DC electrical systems, equipment selection, and interconnection methods
  • Ability to analyze commercial energy usage and design systems that deliver measurable economic outcomes
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

  • NABCEP certification (PV Design Specialist or PV Installation Professional)
  • Familiarity with commercial load profiles, demand charges, and utility rate structures
  • Experience designing projects within Illinois markets or familiarity with utilities such as ComEd or Ameren

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Base Salary: $100,000 – $140,000 depending on experience
  • Performance Incentive: 0.25% of the total value of systems designed that close and install
  • On-Target Earnings (OTE): $150,000 – $195,000 based on expected project volume• Comprehensive benefits including health, vision, and dental coverage• Access to professional design tools and software
