BIM Designer

Job Description: BIM Designer

Position Title: BIM Designer

Department: Drafting / BIM

Reports To: Lead BIM Designer / Senior BIM Coordinator

Job Summary:

The BIM Designer is responsible for producing accurate, coordinated, and fabrication-ready shop drawings for window wall and façade systems using Revit-based BIM workflows. This role bridges design intent and fabrication by developing detailed project models, generating shop drawings, and ensuring all documentation aligns with architectural drawings, structural requirements, project specifications, and internal standards.

The BIM Designer focuses primarily on project execution, using established Revit families and templates to deliver high-quality shop drawings, material take-offs, and coordinated layouts that support fabrication, installation, and project delivery teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Shop Drawing Production

· Develop detailed, fabrication-ready shop drawings using Revit-based BIM models for window wall and façade systems.

· Produce elevations, plans, sections, details, and schedules that clearly communicate design intent and fabrication requirements.

· Apply company standards for dimensioning, tagging, annotations, and sheet layout.

Project-Based BIM Modeling

· Build and maintain project-specific Revit models using approved system families, assemblies, and templates.

· Configure systems based on project-specific requirements, including sizing, glazing types, anchorage conditions, and tolerances.

· Ensure models are developed to the required Level of Development (LOD) for shop drawing and fabrication purposes.

Coordination

· Coordinate BIM models with architectural, structural, and consultant drawings to identify and resolve conflicts.

· Respond to redlines, RFIs, and coordination comments in a timely and accurate manner.

· Collaborate with Project Coordinators, Lead BIM Designers, and fabrication teams to ensure constructability and alignment with project schedules.

Fabrication & Data Support

· Ensure models support accurate material take-offs (MTOs), BOMs, and downstream fabrication workflows.

· Verify that modeled components align with system limitations, fabrication standards, and installation sequencing.

· Assist in troubleshooting issues related to fabrication constraints or field conditions.

Quality Control & Standards Compliance

· Perform self-checks and participate in internal QA/QC reviews of models and shop drawings.

· Maintain compliance with internal BIM standards, naming conventions, and documentation procedures.

· Incorporate feedback from senior team members to improve drawing clarity, accuracy, and efficiency.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

· Assist with maintaining project records, drawing revisions, and documentation logs.

· Contribute feedback to improve templates, standards, and BIM workflows.

· Participate in ongoing training related to Revit, internal BIM tools, and glazing systems.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate’s degree or higher in Drafting, Architecture, Construction Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: · 2–5 years of experience producing shop drawings or construction documents using Revit. Experience in façade, glazing, curtain wall, window wall, or similar building envelope systems is strongly preferred.

Required Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

· Strong proficiency in Revit for project modeling and shop drawing production.

· Solid understanding of construction documents, architectural drawings, and shop drawing standards.

· Ability to interpret specifications, details, and design intent and translate them into buildable documentation.

· Familiarity with material take-offs, schedules, and model-based quantities.

· Working knowledge of AutoCAD for reference and legacy document coordination.

Industry Knowledge

· Understanding of façade and glazing systems, including framing, glazing, anchors, and interfaces.

· Awareness of fabrication and installation considerations and how they influence shop drawings.

Soft Skills

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

· Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.

· Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

· Receptiveness to feedback and willingness to learn and improve.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience coordinating BIM models with fabrication or CNC-driven workflows.

· Familiarity with BIM execution plans (BEPs), LOD standards, and internal BIM governance.

· Exposure to Revit automation tools or custom plugins.

· Experience working in a design-assist or design-build environment.
